The count, day by day.

This site publishes nine five day itineraries in full. Together they hold 45 days and 222 stops. A stop is anything with a start time: a sight, a meal or a dated event.

The mean is 4.9 stops a day. 26 of the 45 days hold four or five.

2 stops 1 day
3 stops 4 days
4 stops 13 days
5 stops 13 days
6 stops 8 days
7 stops 5 days
8 stops 1 day

The fullest day is day 1 of the Barcelona plan, with eight stops. The lightest is day 5 of the Tokyo plan, with two.

What caps a day.

Plan4Me asks for a pace before it plans. The pace sets how many activities one day may hold.

PaceActivities in one day
Relaxed 3 activities. Meals do not count.
Moderate 5 activities. Meals do not count.
Intensive 7 activities. Meals do not count.

All nine plans here used the moderate pace. The data agrees with the cap: no day holds more than five stops that are not meals. The days with six, seven or eight stops get there with meals.

The 222 stops include 44 meals.

Time at stops and time between them.

Across the nine plans the stops take 246 h 30 min. The legs between them take 50 h 25 min. That puts about 17% of the time at stops and between them into moving.

CityFive days
Bangkok 22 stops, 25 h 10 min at stops, 3 h 53 min between them.
Barcelona 25 stops, 29 h at stops, 5 h 14 min between them.
Kyoto 23 stops, 25 h 30 min at stops, 5 h 24 min between them.
Lisbon 23 stops, 24 h 45 min at stops, 6 h 15 min between them.
New York 26 stops, 28 h 15 min at stops, 4 h 52 min between them.
Paris 29 stops, 31 h 15 min at stops, 6 h 52 min between them.
Rome 27 stops, 29 h 55 min at stops, 4 h 58 min between them.
Singapore 24 stops, 26 h 45 min at stops, 5 h 50 min between them.
Tokyo 23 stops, 25 h 55 min at stops, 7 h 7 min between them.

A leg is the travel time the plan allows between two stops of the same day. It does not cover the trip from where you sleep to the first stop.

The first day and the last day.

The first day averages 5.6 stops. The last day averages 3.9. The last day is the lightest, or tied for it, in seven of the nine plans.

Several day titles say why. The Lisbon plan ends on an “Easy waterfront finale”. The Tokyo plan ends on a “Light departure day”.

Use this for your own trip.

  • Count activities and meals apart. Five activities and two meals is a full day.
  • Pick the pace first. Relaxed allows three activities a day, moderate five and intensive seven.
  • Expect a lighter last day. Most of these plans leave room around the departure.
  • Leave time for moving. In these plans travel is about 17% of the time at stops and between them.

Every plan is published in full on the itineraries page, with each stop and each start time.
